During this period, you are also allowed to do part-time jobs for up to 20 hours per week to support yourself. This card is perfect for those who are confident they can find a job once they arrive in Germany, especially in fields like IT, engineering, or healthcare.

What is the Germany Work Visa?

The Germany Work Visa is meant for people who already have a job offer from a company in Germany. This visa allows you to move to Germany and start working immediately. It does not use a point-based system, but you must meet certain criteria like educational qualifications and relevant work experience.


To apply for this visa, you need to show proof of your job offer, and your job should ideally match the in-demand skill areas in Germany. This visa often comes with more stability, as you are moving with a clear plan. In many cases, you can also bring your family with you under dependent visas.

Key Differences in Simple Terms

The biggest difference is that the Opportunity Card does not require a job offer, while the Work Visa does. The Opportunity Card gives you time (up to one year) to find a job while living in Germany, and it allows you to do part-time work during this period. On the other hand, the Work Visa lets you start full-time work immediately after arriving, but only with a valid job contract.


The Opportunity Card uses a point system for eligibility, while the Work Visa does not. Also, the Opportunity Card offers more flexibility, but the Work Visa provides more job security and a direct path to permanent residency.
